RTR Blog: Andrew's Away Mission to Pahvo

Star Trek: Discovery is admittedly not my favourite star trek series. For a show that has the word discovery in it's title, there haven't yet been a tonne of episodes centered around seeking out new life or new civilizations. Although as I mentioned last time in "Andrew's Trip to....", when you live in the city where DISCO is filmed, if they do venture off of the ship, it's typically within driving distance!
In the season one episode "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum", an away team of Saru, Tyler and Michael Burnham beam down to the planet of Pahvo with the hopes of using the vibrations of the planet to find a cloaked Klingon ship (or something), and eventually find a giant crystal antennae.
It turns out that Pahvo is actually the Kelso Conservation Ara near Milton Ontario, about a forty minute drive east of Toronto (where Discovery is filmed). Even with out the "extraterrestrial" colour filter that they added in post production, the location where the antennae was located is easily recognizable after a 15-20 minute hike/walk from the visitor centre. Using the star shaped piece of grass, the bluffs and the circular alcove as guidance you get the same vista that Saru, Burnham and Tyler got when they stumbled upon it on the show. This wasn't my favourite episode of season one, but if you are in the Halton region and you want to take a pretty easy stroll, and spot some star trek filming locations, you'll find this one pretty satisfying!
